Alex Rider Scorpia

Alex Rider: Scorpia, is the fifth book in the Alex Rider series. Alex Rider is a teenage spy (14) that has worked for MI6 many times.

The main plot starts with Alex in Venice, trying to find out the location of Scorpia, as someone had told him that they had information about his father. He finds out some information about it and a lady named Rothman. While investigating, he enters a strange room of Rothman’s, with a tiger inside. He gets caught inside and fights a strange guard, a person named Nile. He escapes, and when his friend Tom sees him, he starts asking questions. Alex finally tells him the truth about him being a spy, and Tom believes him.

Alex asks Tom if he can help him go to Cansanto, a location he learned while investigating Rothman. He breaks in with BASE jumping parachutes, but gets caught by Nile. Nile takes Alex to the Scorpia compound, where he meets Rothman. He is caught off guard when Rothman is especially happy to see him, because she says she knew his father. She asks if he would like to join Scorpia after showing him a video of MI6 killing his father, and Alex says yes. He flies to an island for the school of Scorpia, and starts in Scorpia’s school of killing.

Soon, he gets his first mission, to kill Mrs. Jones, the head of operations in MI6, and the person who ordered his father’s death. He flies back to his home, and he breaks into Mrs. Jones’s home and after disabling her security, tries to shoot her. However, she has a bulletproof screen that was hidden and Alex gets captured by MI6. He is told of Scorpia’s plan to create havoc, named “Invisible Sword”. “Invisible Sword” is a plan made a Scorpia to kill almost every child in Britain, unless the British make the Americans do some demands. The assembled officials figure out that Scorpia’s plan is to use infections in vaccines and nano-technology. However, the British are just trying to find the source of the infections within the 24 hours they have left to protect the children of London.

The head of MI6, Alan Blunt, decides to do things his own way and decides to send Alex back to Scorpia to disable the infections. Although he goes back to Rothman and discovers the location of where the infections will be released, Alex is caught and after signaling MI6, is forced to try to escape. He tries to escape on the hot air balloon that will be used as a satellite to open up the infections in the nanoshells that are in the original vaccines. Nile follows him up the balloon, and after a great fight, Alex wins because of Nile’s fear of heights. After disabling the balloon, he is saved by the parachute in the balloon. Rothman is killed by the falling debris from the balloon. “Invisible Sword is stopped, and no one is killed.

Later, Alex is shown the truth: Alex’s father was a double agent for MI6 and his death was faked. His actual death was by a bomb planted by Scorpia. Alex was tricked into believing that his father worked for Scorpia. In the epilogue, Alex is hit by a bullet and the rest is untold. Overall, I would rate this book 4/5 because it is kind of confusing. However, this is a very good book.
